Butler Hospital
This is probably the most terrifying building in Lovecraft's life.
- Both Lovecraft's parents fell into madness here
- he would spend his life worrying he would end up here himself.
This is an active mental Hospital so I’d recommend just driving by on the way to Lovecraft’s Grave.
Lovecraft’s father, Winfield, was admitted here in 1893 and remained until his death from “general paresis” (neurosyphilis) on 19 July 1898. In early 1919, Lovecraft’s mother had a nervous collapse and she entered the hospital on March 13. She died there on 24 May 1921—as the result of a possibly bungled gall bladder operation. -Lovecraft Encyclopedia
This building
is the scariest
in Lovecrafts life
Like a gaping maw over his human consitution
should he stumble too far,
into madness.
He would be Institutionalized here
spiraling into darkness
until a
distant
broken…..Oblivion.
This wasn’t some fantasy
this is how and where both of his parents died.
Lovecraft’s father was brought here in (year)
It’s believed he had syphylis.
unknown at the time, they simply could treat the symptoms
It rotted his brain, and drove him insane.
What howard knew about his father’s illness
is unclear, and he is never straight forward about it
in any letters or correspondence.
Only (number) miles away from where he grew up.
Howard never visited his father
and after 5 years of suffering
he succcombed
to his affliction

a similiar fate.
The last (20) years of her life, saw her marriage fail
